 The "Tiger of Mysore," Tipu Sultan (1751–1799), was a well-known monarch of the southern Indian Kingdom of Mysore. He was a fierce opponent of British colonial expansion and was well-known for his valor and creative military tactics. Tipu Sultan modernized his army, introduced new weapons, including rockets, and carried out progressive reforms in his administration. He encouraged religious harmony in his kingdom and was a devoted Muslim who also supported Hindu temples. His honorable name is Abdullah, and his title (laqab) is Zabeeh. His kunyahs (patronymic names) are Abu Muhammad, Abu Ahmad, and Abu Qasam (gatherer of goodness and blessings).
